A Huntington Beach man was arrested Friday on suspicion of brandishing a knife at a gas station employee and stealing lottery tickets, according to police.

About 8:20 p.m., Antonio Padilla, 25, allegedly jumped the counter of the Chevron at Goldenwest Street and Yorktown Avenue. Police said he showed an employee a knife and proceeded to take various items including the lottery tickets.

Lt. Chad Nichols said that the employee was not hurt.

Police said Padilla fled on foot, but an officer stopped him half a mile away because he matched the description the employee gave.

The suspect was booked at Huntington Beach City Jail on suspicion of robbery and a parole violation.

According to Lt. Mitch O’Brien, Padilla was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon.

A man with a similar name was sentenced in 2009 to two years in state prison for assault with a deadly weapon, according to an Orange County Superior Court file.
