Bicyclist dies after being struck by car

A bicyclist from Costa Mesa died after she was struck by a vehicle in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

Kathy Sieberhein, 44, succumbed to her injuries at 12:47 a.m. Thursday at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

Huntington Beach police responded to a report of an accident on Adams Avenue near Ranger Lane at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday and found Sieberhein lying in the street and a red 2001 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck nearby, according to a statement from police.

Paramedics rendered first aid to the victim and transported her to the hospital, where she later died.

Authorities interviewed the vehicle’s driver, Brian Chattaway, 80, of Fountain Valley, at the scene, but no citations were issued or arrests made, police said.

According to preliminary investigations, officials believe Chattaway and Sieberhein were westbound on Adams when the accident happened.
