A teenager who recently moved from Fountain Valley to the Lake Tahoe area died Tuesday after a snowboarding accident at a ski resort.

Wyatt James Colvard, 18, who lived in Kings Beach, died of internal injuries from blunt force trauma, according to the autopsy report cited in a statement from the Douglas County sheriff's office in Nevada.

Colvard was an employee of Northstar California, a sister ski resort of Heavenly Ski Resort, where he died, according to Northstar spokeswoman Rachael Woods.

Sheriffs responded to a call of an injured skier or snowboarder at Heavenly at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Ski patrol found Colvard unconscious in the snow in the upper Nevada Woods, an expert skiing area that was closed at the time, according to a statement from the resort. Authorities said the teen was wearing a helmet when he was injured.

Emergency medical care was administered at the scene by ski patrol. Colvard was later transported down the hill and treated by Tahoe Douglas paramedics. The victim died from his injuries shortly after.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
