Letters From the Editor: Welcome, Seal Beach readers

Share

The Huntington Beach Independent is expanding into Seal Beach.

Los Angeles Times subscribers who live in Seal Beach will receive the Independent with their papers every Thursday. The Independent will also be inserted into copies of The Times sold in newspaper racks and at retail locations, such as grocery stores and cafes.

Since the Independent already circulates in neighboring Sunset Beach, as well as Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley, we found adding a neighboring beach town a natural fit for our newspaper group.

The Independent is produced by Times Community News, a division of the Los Angeles Times that also publishes the Daily Pilot in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa and the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot.

I oversee each of our community titles and am excited that this expansion will give Times Community News readers contiguous coastal coverage from Seal Beach to Laguna Beach.

We plan to cover city government, schools and businesses in Seal Beach, just like we do in Huntington, Sunset and Fountain Valley. The expanded coverage will begin with the Feb. 20 print edition. Those of you who’d like to read online can find us at hbindependent.com.

If you have a news tip or story idea, write our city editor, Alicia Lopez, who runs the newspaper day to day, at alicia.lopez@latimes.com or call her at (714) 966-4696.

She’s always looking for good ideas.

JOHN CANALIS is the editor for the Daily Pilot, Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot and Huntington Beach Independent. He can be reached at (714) 966-4607 and john.canalis@latimes.com.
