Lockdown lifted at H.B.’s Edison High after bomb threat; students back in class

Edison High School in Huntington Beach was placed on lockdown for about three hours as explosives-sniffing dogs helped investigate an anonymous bomb threat that turned out to be unfounded Monday, police said.

Police responded about 8:40 a.m. after the principal received an email warning of a bomb at the school, according to Jennifer Marlatt, Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman.

The email didn’t indicate a specific time or date but said to check the library and a hallway, Marlatt said.

Teams with three dogs from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad quickly determined there was no threat in those areas, police said.

Authorities checked the rest of the school as a precaution, Marlatt said.

All students were evacuated from school buildings to the campus field area during the investigation and returned to class about noon when authorities determined it was safe, police said. Edison has about 2,600 students.
