Retail Therapy: 32 and counting at Ruby’s

Share

Roll it up: Ruby’s is continuing its 32nd anniversary party with a 32-cent breakfast burrito from 7 to 11 a.m. Friday at Ruby’s Dinette, 428 E. 17th St., Costa Mesa. Enjoy the burrito, filled with scrambled eggs, two cheeses and housemade salsa, as a dine-in or to-go option. One per person. Information: rubys.com.

Get juiced: Stop by Nekter Juice Bar’s grand opening at 474 17th St., Costa Mesa, from 7 to 11 a.m. Jan. 9 to enjoy free tastings and 16-ounce smoothies and juices, giveaways, face painting, a Glyder trunk show and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first 50 customers will get a $25 gift card, and the first 25 cleanse customers will receive a swag bag. One winner will receive a free one-day cleanse. Information: nekterjuicebar.com.

Although January usually means a dearth of clothing warehouse and sample sales, Orange County has lots of fantastic furnishings options for all pocketbooks. Here are some of my favorites:

Chin up, buttercup: HD Buttercup, the designer furniture darling with a new location at SoCo Collection, 3305 Hyland Ave., Costa Mesa, is hosting its semiannual sale. Enjoy substantial savings on rarely discounted furnishings. Information: hdbuttercup.com.

Designer dreams: If your taste is high but your budget is dry, never underestimate the potential to be found at Goodwill stores. Goodwill receives large donations of new Target overstock and salvaged merchandise regularly. A recent trip to the Goodwill location at 620 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa, yielded Threshold rugs and furniture, name-brand appliances still in the box (“salvaged” because a corner of the cardboard box was dented), a huge selection of air mattresses, Altuzarra for Target designer collaboration clothes, and more. Be sure to check everything thoroughly, but where else can you get a new $15 desk and a new-in-package, $10, queen-sized Simply Shabby Chic duvet cover? (Actually, your Retail Therapist bought those, so you can’t get them. But she left behind some beautiful turquoise curtains that she is still having second thoughts about.) In addition to loads of standard Goodwill stores, more selective boutiques are operated in Lake Forest, Tustin, Huntington Beach and Anaheim. Location list and hours: ocgoodwill.org.

Office space: If your needs lean more toward your office than your home, two great resources in the area are American Office Furniture, 1008 Fuller St., Santa Ana, and Best New and Used Office Furniture Inc., 4 Wrigley, Irvine. Both stock new and used options including desks, chairs, file cabinets and cubicles. Selection ranges from budget scratch-and-dent to Herman Miller. Information: americanofficefurniture.us and bestnewandused.com.
