Hockey club to play exhibition game at Strand

Players from a local hockey club will show their stuff in Surf City on Thursday at an exhibition game at the Strand’s outdoor holiday ice skating rink.

The Anaheim Wildcats will take over the ice from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Strand’s 1,800-square-foot ice skating rink.

The Anaheim Ducks mascot Wild Wing is also expected to make an appearance at the exhibition game.

Vanya Lodnia, 11, Sasha Chmelevski, 11, Nate Gallo, 11, Julian Timba, 12, Jacob Mabaquiao, 12, Jacob Heller, 12, Rourke Russell, 12, and Tanner Ensign, 10, will be skating for the Wildcats. Ian Gibbons, 12, and Jared Levine, 10, will be goaltending.

The skating rink opens Wednesday through Jan. 5 on 5th Street between Pacific Coast Highway and Walnut Avenue. Fifth Street will be closed to cars for the duration.

The rink will be open 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; noon to 6 p.m. Friday; noon to 10 p.m. Dec. 26; 4 to 10 p.m. Dec. 27 to 31; noon to 10 p.m. Jan. 1 and 2; and 4 to 10 p.m. Jan. 3 to 5.

Skate rentals are $5 for children and $7 for adults.
