Fountain Valley needs commissioners

Fountain Valley is looking for community volunteers to fill open seats on several boards, commissions and committees.

The city is accepting applications for the Planning Commission, Community Foundation, Advisory Committee for the Disabled and Housing and Community Development Advisory Board.

Applicants must be residents of the city and at least 18 years old. Appointments will be made for two-year terms.

The Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday in the Council Chambers. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council on development, subdivision of land, zoning and land use.

The Community Foundation meets at 5:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month in the Senior Center Conference Room. The foundation is dedicated to raising funds for, and assisting, charitable services and programs around the city.

The Advisory Committee for the Disabled meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of the odd-numbered months in the City Hall Conference Room 1. The committee is in charge of disseminating facts about recreation programs and disaster preparedness information to the disabled and conveying the needs of the disabled population to the larger community.

The Housing and Community Development Advisory Board meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month in Council Chambers. The board reviews the city’s federal block grant program and makes recommendations to the council concerning housing and community development activities.
