A downtown hair salon is cutting for a cause Sunday to raise money for Huntington Beach High School students.

Makin Waves Salon is hosting a Cut-A-Thon to help football players and cheerleaders cover the costs of participating in the extracurricular activities.

The students have to pay for uniforms, bus fees and stipends for coaches, which can total up to $2,000.

The salon will donate 100% of the proceeds from the $25 haircuts to the students.

Residents can also enter to win a surf lesson with world longboard champion Kim Hamrock, a Brazilian/Keratin straightener, a spray tan and a formal event makeover.

Hamrock will also be on hand during the event to give out free surfing tips.

Huntington Beach High cheerleaders and football players will also be helping out in uniform.

There will be a deejay, hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Makin Waves Salon, 320 Main St.
