Police seek hit-and-run victim

Huntington Beach police are looking for the victim of a hit-and-run collision in which the suspect was caught and later convicted with the help of a witness.

Anaheim resident Sasha Marie Duprez, 29, was arrested Aug. 30 after a short pursuit on suspicion of evading police, driving on a suspended license and on an outstanding warrant for being an unlicensed driver, said Lt. Russell Reinhart.

Duprez pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, three years probation and ordered to pay $300 in fines, according to Orange County Superior Court records.

A man flagged down two officers near Bolsa Chica Street and Heil Avenue at about 3:55 p.m. Aug. 30 after witnessing the collision and gave a description of the vehicle. The man had also taken a picture of the license plate number, but couldn’t retrieve it from his phone while talking to police, Reinhart said.

Police caught up with Duprez minutes later when her gold Toyota Camry matched the description. She attempted to escape from police but was eventually stopped on Scenario Drive and arrested.

The witness was later able to retrieve the photo, which matched the license plate number of Duprez’s car. She also admitted to police that she got into a collision and fled the scene, Reinhart said.

It is believed that the victim was driving either a silver van or a minivan. Police are asking the victim to come forward and contact Traffic Investigator Robert Barr at (714) 536-5666.
