Three more enter school races

The final three candidates have thrown their hats into the rings for the 19 open school board seats in districts serving Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

Retired college president David D. Grant and educator and retired policeman Bob Mosley are on the ballot for Coast Community College District’s Area 5 open seat.

Engineer and business owner Charlie Chi Manh Nguyen will also be running for the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

There are 34 candidates vying for positions in the Fountain Valley School, Huntington Beach Union School, Huntington Beach City School, Ocean View School, Garden Grove Unified School, Westminster School and Coast Community College districts.

Grant and Mosely will be running against retired Federal Judge Lynne Riddle for the Area 5 seat at the Coast Community College District. The district oversees Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa and Coastline Community College, which is based in Fountain Valley.

Shana Christina Jenkins, a public affairs instructor, will also be running against incumbent Jim Moreno for his Area 1 seat at the Coast Community College District.

Bao Quoc Nguyen, an educator; Bob Tucker, a labor relations representative; Shaun M. Curtis; and incumbents Lan Quoc Nguyen and Bob Harden will all be vying for the two open positions at the Garden Grove Unified School District.

The district oversees two adult education centers, 47 elementary, 10 intermediate, seven high, two continuation and two special education schools in Garden Grove and in surrounding cities, including Fountain Valley.

Anji Clemens, an educator and business consultant; Kathleen Iverson, a retired teacher; Tom Dern, a businessman; and incumbents Brian Garland and Bonnie Castrey are running for the three opens seat at the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

The district oversees seven high schools, an adult school and two alternative high schools in Huntington Beach, and Fountain Valley and Westminster.

James Templin, a public school administrator; Rochelle Giuseffi, a retired educator; Sandra Crandall, a retired educator; and incumbents Judith Edwards and Nicola Weiss are competing for Fountain Valley School District’s three open seats.

The district oversees eight elementary and four middle schools in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach.

Rob Fishel, a businessman; and incumbent Celia Jaffe, Rosemary Saylor and Shirley A. Carey have qualified to run for the three open seats on the Huntington Beach City School District. The district oversees seven elementary and two middle schools.

Brian Joseph Rodden, a businessman; John Ortiz, a special education para-educator; and sitting board members George W. Clemens, John Briscoe and Tracy Pellman have added their names to the list of candidates for the Ocean View School District’s three open seats.

The district makes decisions for two preschools, 11 elementary and four middle schools in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

Ronald Zell, a retired principal; and incumbents Andrew Nguyen, Mary Mangold and K. David Bridgewaters qualified as a candidate for Westminster School District’s three open seats.

The district oversees one child development center and 13 elementary and three middle schools in Huntington Beach, Midway City, Garden Grove and Westminster.
