Safety authorities respond to two separate accidents on PCH

Officials responded to two traffic accidents on Pacific Coast Highway off Main Street last week that sent several people to the hospital, officials said.

The Huntington Beach Police Department was called out to a multi-motorcycle accident Friday and, along with the Fire Department, responded Saturday to a two-vehicle accident where four people were trapped in a car.

The Police Department was called to the scene after a woman fell off a motorcycle after the driver attempted to do a wheelie at 12:05 a.m. Friday at PCH and First Street, said Lt. Russell Reinhart.

The woman was hit by a second motorcyclist, injuring her and the second driver. Both were taken to the UCI Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

The driver of the first motorcycle, 34-year-old Jamar Cochise James, of Costa Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving.

James hasn’t been charged as of Thursday, according to the Orange County Superior Court records.

Just down PCH on Saturday, a small sedan and a Ford Expedition collided about 4:21 p.m. at Second Street, said Martha Werth, Fire Department spokeswoman.

Two fire engines arrived on the scene and called in an additional paramedic engine and two ambulances.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life on the sedan to extricate its four passengers, Werth said.

The passengers of the sedan and two from the Expedition were taken to the hospital.
