Walmart supermarket to open in H.B.

Huntington Beach has a new neighborhood supermarket coming, but it’s not quite a mom-and-pop establishment.

Walmart plans to open the first Walmart Neighborhood Market in California on Friday at 21132 Beach Blvd. The store, which follows others in Washington and Oregon as the fourth of its kind on the West Coast, will celebrate its opening with a 7:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting.

Walmart Neighborhood Markets, according to the company’s website, feature groceries as well as stationery, beauty items, pet supplies, a one-hour photo center and more.

Walmart also has a Supercenter, which offers groceries along with general merchandise, scheduled to open soon at 6912 Edinger Ave. in Huntington Beach, according to Rachel Wall, the company’s senior manager of community affairs. The company has no official deadline yet for the opening.

She added that the Neighborhood Market had created 65 new jobs and that three quarters of the people hired live in Huntington Beach.
