Police chief’s daughter pleads guilty, finishes jail time

The Huntington Beach police chief’s daughter pleaded guilty June 9 to felony charges after stabbing her husband in the chest.

Jennifer Sue Small, 31, was charged with felony corporal injury on a spouse. Small, of Midway City, originally pleaded not guilty May 26 to that charge and felony assault with a deadly weapon.

The second charge was dismissed June 9, court records show.

“I felt that was the appropriate [charge] under the circumstance,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Ted Burnett said.

Small was sentenced to 34 days in jail, three years of formal probation and ordered to pay restitution, which wasn’t established, Burnett said.

She was also ordered to complete one year in an alcohol rehabilitation program, he said.

On May 24, Small’s husband called police to the Beach West Hotel, 15401 Beach Blvd., for a domestic dispute, officials said.

Small stabbed him in the chest, but officials said the wound was non-life-threatening. The wound was very shallow, only five centimeters, Burnett said.

Small has already served her jail time and was released June 9. She is the daughter of Police Chief Ken Small.
