Fourth of July community grand marshal named

The Huntington Beach Fourth of July Executive Board has named long-time resident Ralph Bauer to serve as community grand marshal for the 109th annual Fourth of July Parade and Celebration.

Bauer has been contributing to the community for 46 years, according to a news release. He was recognized in June with the opening of the 2-acre Ralph Bauer Park at Newland Street and Hamilton Avenue.

Bauer was mayor in 1997, a councilman from 1992 to 2002, and over 46 years was on the Recreation and Parks Commission along with several other city commissions and committees. He is a charter member of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica and has been a trustee on two school districts.

The Fourth of July Executive Committee annually chooses a community member with exemplary dedication to issues involving the betterment of local citizens and community issues, according to the release.

The parade will be from 10 a.m. to noon July 4 along Main Street between 11th and 12th streets.
