Fountain Valley police arrested a man Monday suspected in the Friday robbery of the Citibank on Brookhurst Street.

Police responded to a call of a robbery at the bank at 17400 Brookhurst St. in Fountain Valley, according to a news release. A suspect reportedly handed a bank teller a note demanding money. After receiving cash the suspect fled and was last seen running south through the parking lot, police said.

A tip from a witness at a nearby bank that a man had been acting suspiciously just prior to the Citibank robbery led Fountain Valley detectives to John Mclaughlin, the release said.

Mclaughlin is reportedly a 35-year-old parolee from Long Beach who had recently been released from prison after a 2010 robbery conviction, police said.

Police and FBI found Mclaughlin in Long Beach, where he was taken into custody without incident, according to the release. The statement said a portion of the money believed to have been taken during the robbery was recovered.

The suspect has been booked into Orange County Jail pending charges of robbery, possession of methamphetamine and a parole violation.
