A man who fled court before his hearing for two burglaries was arrested April 14 after Huntington Beach police received a tip about his whereabouts.

Terry Christopher McCarthy, 48, is being held in the Orange County Jail.

Bail was set at $2 million, said Lt. Russell Reinhart.

McCarthy was scheduled to appear before court April 13 to face charges for two burglaries he is alleged to have committed within a two-month period last year.

Officers saw McCarthy outside of the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana before his hearing, Reinhart said.

Two arrest warrants worth $1 million each were issued for McCarthy, who was labeled dangerous by authorities.

McCarthy entered homes in Irvine and Huntington Beach and confronted residents, police said.

A Huntington Beach resident armed himself with a knife and forced McCarthy out when he found him in his home March 19, 2010, according to a police release.

Police arrested McCarthy in Ontario on April 5, 2010. He posted $100,000 in bail and was released from custody.

While out on bail, authorities said McCarthy entered a woman’s home in Irvine on May 21. When she arrived home, he chased her, but she escaped, the news release said.

McCarthy was arrested again but was released after posting $500,000 in bail.

Bail for McCarthy, who has a criminal history going back to 1995, was increased in both incidents, Reinhart said.

Shortly after the department released information and asked for assistance from the public to locate him, a call was placed that McCarthy was in the 2100 block of California Street.

An officer responding located him, chased him on foot and arrested him, Reinhart said.
