HB mayor delivers meals to seniors

In an effort to bring awareness to struggling seniors in Huntington Beach, Mayor Joe Carchio delivered meals to homebound seniors and older residents in the city from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Carchio took part in Anaheim-based Community SeniorServ’s Mayors for Meals program, which is intended to bring attention to senior hunger throughout Orange County

This was his first time participating in this program, he said.

“We have a growing senior population in Huntington Beach, and it’s a good idea to let them know that somebody does care and that the community cares and they are not out there alone,” Carchio said. “We do know that there’s a definite need, and this lets them know that people in government, and the mayor in this case, really cares about the struggles they go through on a daily basis.”

Carchio is an active senior in the city, he said. He also serves as the liaison of the city’s Council on Aging.

“We met all sort of people. It was a lot of fun,” he said. “I would do it all the time. It was a lot of fun meeting all of these people.”
