The Boardroom joins US Open of Surfing

The Boardroom will join the festivities of this year’s Vans US Open of Surfing.

The freestanding, climate-controlled pavilion will be held alongside the world’s largest surfing festival between July 23 to 27, during the last week of the competition.

Since Vans stepped in as the new sponsor and antithesis of the previous Nike-dominated event, new developments are coming, fast and furious.

Vans and IMG are advocating an all-inclusive world class competition and cultural festival with the addition of a 50,000 square foot pavilion as a celebration of surfing, surfboards and the shapers who make them, according to Scott Bass, founder and director of The Boardroom, which is based in San Clemente.

The venue will be floored, carpeted and will feature shaping competitions, seminars, entertainment, autograph signings and hundreds of booths filled with surfboards, legendary and contemporary shapers, surf apparel, skate hard goods and accessory companies.

The Boardroom will be open to the media and retail buyers from July 23 to 25, then to the general public for two days.

Bass said he is psyched to offer, “Epic boards and epic waves at this culturally significant landmark,” referring to the HB Pier.

The dates for the 2013 US Open of Surfing have changed to July 20 to 28 instead of continuing into early August.
