Residents of Orange County will soon be able to order their eggs and milk while shopping for electronics or books.

Amazon has recently expanded its grocery delivery service, Amazon Fresh, to a few cities in the county, including Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Irvine, according to company representative Nell Rona.

Residents can check fresh.amazon.com to see if they are within the coverage area.

The program is an expansion of Amazon Prime, an annual-fee-based membership service, and will offer the same perks, such as free two-day shipping and video streaming.

Amazon is offering a free 30-day trial and will charge customers $299 per year afterward for a package that includes Prime membership, according to Amazon’s website. Existing Prime members will be upgraded to the service at the end of the trial on a prorated basis.

Membership for Prime alone is $79 annually, but the online retailer is not offering the grocery service without Prime membership, according to Amazon.

Customers will get free shipping on orders of more than $35. Orders placed before 10 a.m. are eligible for same-day delivery.

Amazon isn’t the only company that offers grocery deliveries to Orange County residents. Vons has a similar service but does not require an annual membership, according to the company’s website.

It does, however, require a minimum purchase of $49 and a delivery fee: $12.95 for orders of less than $150 and $9.95 for purchases of $150 or more.
