The Orange County Business Council has endorsed Newport Beach City Councilman Keith Curry for the 74th Assembly District seat, campaign officials announced Monday.

Curry, who is vying for the position as current 74th District Assemblyman Allan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa) prepares to run for the Orange County Board of Supervisors, is competing against three other candidates, including Huntington Beach Mayor Matthew Harper.

“Orange County needs leaders like Keith in Sacramento,” business council President Lucy Dunn said in a statement.

She added that the former mayor “has a record of accomplishments and helping local businesses. We can trust Keith to bring his experience to the Legislature and fight to grow small businesses and jobs.”

Curry served as Newport’s mayor in 2010 and 2013.

The business council and its earlier incarnations have advocated for area businesses for more than a century, according to a news release.
