Surrounded by close family members, Frances Jean Anderson Bury was called to her Lord the morning of November 18, 2014 at her home of 54 years on Lido Isle.

Frances Jean was born in Turlock, California to Esther and Joseph Anderson.

A bright and determined young woman, Frances, after completion of high school, went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. She was known by those who loved her for her precise command of the English language.

After graduation, she relocated to Carmel, California, and taught at Carmel High School. It was in Carmel that she met her future husband, Charles G. Bury. They were married in 1949, and had two children, Brenda and Chip. They moved to Lido Isle in 1960.

She loved her island and it’s beauty and was a proficient walker. Possessing a keen knowledge of flowers and plants, she taught those who walked with her about the many varieties of roses growing in the gardens along the way. As an avid tennis player, she could be seen gracing the courts well into her 80’s.

Frances will be profoundly missed, and is survived by daughter Brenda Bury, grandsons Daniel, Alex, and Nick Bury, daughter-in-law Janeen Thomas Bury, longtime companion Thomas Swick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death in February, 2014, was her adored and beloved son Chip.

Friends are encouraged to make a donation in Frances’ name to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
