Greer’s OC: An event that celebrates women

Share

Spa Gregorie’s in Newport Beach will be celebrating women of all ages in a major way from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday with its 5th annual Women are Wonderful: In Full Bloom event. It’s a women’s expo featuring beauty demonstrations, exhibits, presentations and spa gifts, and the evening benefits local charities.

More than 50 vendors will be participating, including spa and wellness experts (like Clarisonic and Epicuren) as well as local boutiques, fitness studios, fashion and more. Experience high-end service demos, including tanning and shimmer applications, a Spa Gregorie’s custom skin analysis and facial prescription, and a Nuface brow lift demonstration — the only FDA-approved device to utilize micro-currents for non-invasive “face-lifts.” You can exchange your outdated fine jewelry, charms, gold and precious metals at the Hidden Treasures booth for cash.

Other vendors include Jo Malone, Bluewater Grill, True Food Kitchen, YogaWorks and Whole Foods Market, plus a photo booth for free photos.

All guests will receive a generous “swag bag” full of goodies and will be eligible for more than 40 prize drawings.

The entry fee costs $20, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the American Heart Assn., Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Greet the Day and Working Wardrobes. Tickets are available at all three Spa Gregorie’s locations and at spagregories.com/promotions.

Spa Gregorie’s Newport Beach is located at 200 Newport Center Drive., Ste. 100, Newport Beach. For more information, call (949) 644-6672.

This Chameleon is vanishing

One of our favorite home furnishing stores, Studio Chameleon in Newport Beach, is closing its retail division.

Owner and interior designer Eve Lowey will be continuing with her Chameleon Design firm for both commercial and residential clients. Lowey and her talented team of designers can help you create the perfect home that’s a reflection of you and your lifestyle.

In the meantime, through Aug. 31, you can find some incredible furniture, art, accessories and more on sale. Furniture and pillows are reduced from 40% to 60%, and art and accessories are reduced at least 30%. It’s time to shop and take advantage of great savings.

It’s open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 1733 Westcliff Drive, Newport Beach.

For more information, call (949) 650-7979 or visit https://www.studiochameleon.com.

It’s a wonderful World

Costa Mesa has a new neighborhood nursery that promises to offer better prices than large chain nurseries. Plant World Nursery and Garden Center just opened, next to Lu Lu Boutique & Gallery (a favorite local boutique for casual designer fashions) and it’s offering Greer’s OC readers a special on one gallon succulents for just $5 through Sept. 1.

Plant World also carries a wide selection of outdoor plants including flowers, shrubs, hanging baskets, herbs, vegetables, fruit trees, palms and garden accessories, like pottery, arbors, soil, fertilizer and more.

It’s open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1724 Tustin Ave., Costa Mesa. For more information, call (949) 200-9904.

Pasta the pure way

It’s hard to beat freshly made pastas, and now Atrium Court at Fashion Island has a spot serving made-from-scratch pastas every day.

Sbarro is a new Italian concept restaurant where you watch the entire process of pastas and pizza dough being made. There’s also a create-your-own-pasta station, where a sauté chef prepares fresh pasta to order.

Get as creative as you want or order classics such as penne alla vodka, fettuccine alfredo or spaghetti pomodoro.

Sbarro also bakes pizza fresh in its brick ovens, and at the pizza topping station, you can choose from chicken and roasted peppers to caramelized onions and jalapeños to make it just the way you like.

Sbarro makes dough from scratch every morning for its strombolis and garlic breadsticks, too.

It’s open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fashion Island’s Atrium Court in Newport Beach. For more information, call (949) 760-2520.

Win a car from Richard Marx

On Saturday night, singer and songwriter Richard Marx will host and sing at the Acura Celebrity Event at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts. Throughout the summer, Festival of Arts visitors have been buying raffle tickets for a chance to win a brand new Acura ZDX (valued over $50,000), and the lucky winner will be chosen Saturday night.

The evening starts at 5 p.m. with celebrities walking the red carpet at the Festival of Arts entrance, including Camryn Manheim, Robert David Hall, Greg Grunberg, Vanessa Branch, Marion Ross and many others.

Marx will perform at 7 p.m. and pull the winning ticket for the Acura ZDX at 8 p.m. Tickets will continue to be sold ($5 for one ticket, $20 for five tickets — you don’t need to be present to win). Funds raised will go toward the Festival of Arts programming, improvements and renovations.

The Acura Celebrity Event is free with Festival of Arts admission ($7 for adults, $4 for seniors and students). Pageant ticket holders can also attend the event. It’s located at 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. For more information, call (949) 494-1145 or visit https://www.lagunafestivalofarts.org.

Sperry on top

Fashion Island just opened the largest Sperry Top-Sider store on the West Coast.

The 75-year-old nautical lifestyle brand claims the title as the inventor of the world’s first modern boat shoe, and its new store in Fashion Island offers a collection of Sperry men’s, women’s and children’s lifestyle and performance footwear, as well as unique curated apparel and accessories like tote bags and boardshorts made from recycled sailcloth. The store features authentic nautical design and a self-select stockroom, called “the boathouse,” meant to mimic the feel of a working boathouse.

It’s open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday between Nordstrom Court and Pacific Court at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
