Coastline Community College recognized Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) students at its 13th annual awards banquet last week.

EOPS is a state-funded program aimed at providing support for students whose educational and socioeconomic backgrounds might hinder their academic success in college.

The May 23 ceremony recognized 53 recipients of Coastline scholarships, six winners of Asian and Pacific Islander American scholarships and 25 graduates, according to a news release.

Coastline has campuses in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Garden Grove and Westminster.

Guest speakers included former Coastline EOPS student Hung Ta, who spoke about how Coastline helped him begin his path toward a bachelor’s degree in psychology after a 40-year absence from higher education, the release stated.

“I am so proud to recognize such an amazing group of students, who have made a difference here at Coastline by their academic success and being great role models for incoming students of the program,” Coastline President Loretta Adrian said in the release.
