Police have identified a man who was stabbed to death in Costa Mesa last week.

Steven Craig DePhillips, 40, of Costa Mesa, was stabbed outside a home in the 3000 block of Capri Lane near the Mesa Verde Country Club, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Paul Dondero.

DePhillips was discovered lying in a driveway Aug. 30 with wounds to his torso and chest.

Jeffrey Alec Henderson, 50, of Costa Mesa was arrested within 12 hours of the initial call in connection with the crime, Dondero said.

He was arrested about five miles away from the scene in Fountain Valley by Costa Mesa police.

DePhillips was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he died of his injuries, according to police.

DePhillips is the fourth person alleged to have been murdered in Costa Mesa this year — the highest number since 2006, when the city saw six homicides, according to Unified Crime Reports from the Costa Mesa Police Department. There were no reported homicides in Costa Mesa in 2007.
