"I have a very good life. If I win, fine; if not, fine. The nomination is the place I feel honored. It's warm and friendly and you're with people who you admire -- the rest is nonsense. It's a horse race, and I don't like to turn people into horses.

"One of the main joys for me is feeling like I'm part of something, a group of people doing something together, and awards can be isolating. But I have mixed feelings -- your career does get better if you get a bunch of awards, and it's nice to feel people like your work, but I don't appreciate feeling like a horse."
