Retail Therapy: On its day, Bruxie thinks of others

Dining with a difference: Gourmet waffle restaurant Bruxie will celebrate its third anniversary with a charity fundraiser Friday; 10% of proceeds will benefit the Independence Fund, which provides all-terrain wheelchairs to injured veterans. Kicking off the season: Fashion Island will host its popular holiday tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16 at the courtyard in front of Bloomingdale’s. This year’s events will include a Disney-orchestrated music and light show, with “snow,” carols and Disney characters. Two bits: Great Clips haircut locations will offer a free haircut or a haircut card on Monday to all active, inactive and retired military members, including members of the National Guard. The card will be valid through Dec. 31. Customers who pay for a service Monday also will receive a haircut card to give to a veteran. Reduce, reuse, recycle: Apparel retailer H&M is offering customers a 15% discount voucher when they bring in a grocery bag of used clothes in any condition to donate or to be recycled. Clothes are sent to a processing plant, where they are hand-sorted. Items that are too worn to be reworn can be converted into other products. Celebrity cuisine: Chef Rick Bayless has opened his new flagship Red O restaurant at Fashion Island, 143 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach. Cultural studies: The Orange Coast College Friends of the Library will present “Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys” at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 in the library community room at the college, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Admission is free for OCC students and Friends members; donation for others is $5 or a gently used book. Proceeds benefit the OCC Library. Haute lunch: The Resort at Pelican Hill, 22701 S. Pelican Hill Road, Newport Coast, launches its new fashion show series from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at its Andrea Ristorante. The first La Bella Moda event will feature handbags, shoes and jewelry along with a three-course prix-fixe Prosecco lunch, a live auction and a personal shopping experience.
