Library to celebrate summer reading

The Huntington Beach Public Library is starting its Summer Reading Program with music, magic, marionettes and more.

The Central Library will present the Festival of Folktales on June 29 to begin its Summer Reading Program “Make a Splash: Read!”

The festival will feature musical storytelling, a Hullabaloo band sing-along concert and a steel-drum band.

Fratello Marionettes will perform “The Frog Prince” and “Carnival of the Animals,” and the Academy of International Dance will take the stage.

Jumbo Shrimp Circus will put on a magic show, the Library Fairy will do story time and Mr. Twister will be making balloon animals.

There will also be crafts, games and face painting, as well as food for purchase.

Children aged 2 to 12 and young adults can register for the Summer Reading Program at the event.

Tickets are 50 cents each or 11 for $5. They can be purchased in advanced in the Children’s Department or the day of the event from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The festival will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 29 in the outside courtyard at the Central Library’s circle driveway.
