Greer’s OC: Pig out on bacon candy

Share

It’s one thing to adore bacon. As former members of the Bacon of the Month Club, we get it.

It’s another thing to call yourself the Bacon Vixen and dedicate years to perfecting handmade gourmet bacon candies. Meet Tara Simon of Costa Mesa, part-Pilates instructor, part bacon candy artist who founded The Sticky Pig candy bacon confections that will seduce any bacon lover.

The next time you’re considering the perfect hostess gift, party favor, or just a box of treats for the bacon aficionado in your life, you’ll know where to turn. The Sticky Pig’s latest original bacon candy collection includes dark chocolate, milks and white chocolate candies.

There is the Rogue, with buttery caramel, fleur de sel and toffee; the Jane, with spicy peanut butter and caramelized banana; and the Lakshmi, with sweet curry, coconut and Kafir lime leaf. Each month, The Sticky Pig introduces a new specialty flavor. For March it’s the Boudicca, with pistachio, Irish cream and candied mint.

The confections are sold exclusively online in boxed sets of four pieces for $20, 12 pieces for $34.99 and 24 pieces for $69.99. You can also customize your order to be nut-free, dairy-free or add a personalized note.

STEP INTO A DREAM HOME

Living with multi-generations isn’t just a trend — it’s a reality due to economic factors, and for some, it’s simply an attractive option.

To give us a better idea on how living with three generations can work under one roof, more than a dozen leading designers from the American Society of Interior Designers in Orange County created a dream living space to inspire at the South Coast Collection in Costa Mesa.

The designers created a one-of-a-kind showcase project, which you can tour, to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The converted storefront at SOCO has been separated into 16 distinctive areas, each designed by a different ASID member or team.

You can tour a foyer, lobby, living room, master bedroom, master bathroom, teen bedroom, guest bath, nursery, grandparents’ suite, grandparents’ bath, powder room, kitchen and laundry.

The Dream Home is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday. On Wednesdays, it stays open until 8 p.m. for “Meet the Designers Night.”

Admission is $25 online, $30 at the door, and $50 for an unlimited month-long pass. Attend meet-and-greet receptions and a “Guest Lecture Series” on Saturdays, at an additional cost.

This Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the “Guest Lecture Series” at the OC Mart Mix features Jeff Duggan from Portola Coffee, Phil Brooks from We Olive & Wine Bar, Susan Carter of Savory Spice Shop and Dawn Mednick from The Cheese Shop.

At 12:30 p.m., it’s “Nourish with Anna Getty,” where you can learn about cooking and eating, and attend a book signing of Anna Getty’s “Easy Green Organic.”

For more information, visit https://www.asidreamhome.com. SOCO is at 3303 Hyland Ave. The Dream Home is in Suite C-1 between Stark and Fixtures Living.
