There were several highlights during the sixth annual Pipeline to a Cure Gala, benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Saturday night.

Certainly Mike Ness of Social Distortion taking the stage for a rare collaboration with local 80s cover band Flashback Heart Attack stood out among those highlights at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa.

Ness and his wife, Christine, who live in Newport Beach, were honored during the event that was also a celebration of the benefits that surfing brings to the CF community.

There was plenty of reason to celebrate/party during the event when Ness took the stage to perform for a crowd that featured many of his friends, including Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.

Ness played, “Bad Luck,” and “Ball and Chain,” with Flashback Heart Attack.

Members of Flashback live in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach. Flashback plays regularly at the Harp Inn in Costa Mesa and the White House in Laguna Beach.

Don Bronze, a guitarist for Flashback, said Ness playing songs with a different band other than Social D is a rarity. The guests received a treat.

Ness and his wife are the 2013 Emily’s Heroes honorees. They are known for their commitment to Pipeline to a Cure before the inaugural event.

Ness and Social D performed on stage during a Pipeline to a Cure event before to help bring more attention to the cause. This was also for a good cause and for fun.
