$10,000 raised for bar bouncer’s medical bills

Share

Patrons gathered at Marine Room Tavern on Monday to offer support and raise money for the bar’s beloved bouncer.

Tim Coffey, who has worked at the tavern for about six years, was diagnosed with throat cancer a few months ago and may have to go through radiation therapy after surgery.

Customers suggested the bar hold a benefit to raise funds for his medical bills.

Musical guests, including the Dupp Brothers, Barefoot Kindred, Jayson Rowley and Lil’ Sassy & the Dirtdogs all performed for free. Bartenders donated their tips, and the bar suggested that guests donate $20 at the door.

“It was so much better than I thought it would be,” said tavern bartender Rob Boyd. “People really rallied on this one. It’s a true testament to Tim’s kind heart.”
