Trend Watch: Relax at CloudMover Day Spa
A reader tipped me off to CloudMover Day Spa in Huntington Beach, which recently moved from Old World Village to Five Points Plaza.
Last month, CloudMover Day Spa was named No. 1 Day Spa on the Orange County Hot List, a website that lets people vote on the hottest things in Orange County. It also nabbed “Best Day Spa” in 2010 and “Best Massage” in 2011 on the website, according to a news release.
The salon bills itself as “Where the locals go,” and was started in 2006 by Anne Mason-Arnold, a former advertising exec turned entrepreneur.

Yum: fire-singed pizza
Los Angeles-based Pitfire Artisan Pizza, known for its rustic, fire-singed pizzas and a menu that uses the simplest of fresh ingredients, opened at 353 E. 17th St. in Costa Mesa.
A press release calls the restaurant an “initiator of the artisanal pizza boom in Los Angeles” that features an “anti-chain signature cuisine.”
The restaurant, which took over a building that previously housed a Marie Callendar’s, plays up Orange County’s surf culture with its design. Check out the menu at pitfirepizza.com. Pitfire also switches out brews on tap and makes its own sangria.

Storytelling yoga classes available
There’s no better way to say it: Children’s yoga is awesome. I’ve only let my son take one yoga class (hopefully we’ll do more), but there’s something so peaceful and empowering about yoga for kids.
On that note, Seeds Art and Education Inc. in Laguna Beach has teamed up with Mindful Octopus, a storytelling yoga class for children, for a quarterly class session.
I first interviewed Mindful Octopus founder, Sam Schroeder, back in October about how she started Mindful Octopus.
All classes are themed with a specific children’s story each week. The yoga poses tell the story of the week and the class wraps up with a relevant art project.
Classes will run from 4 to 5 p.m. every Monday from Jan. 10 through March 28 and will take place at the Anneliese Schools campuses in Laguna Beach. Cost is $175. More information is at info@seedsed.org or (949) 322-9597.
Also, don’t miss out on Seeds’ Jr. Master Gardeners Class for children in second through fifth grades from 4 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 10.
The class, called “a unique gardening education,” will cover topics such as plant growth and development, soils and water, and ecology and environmental horticulture, according to an email.

More luxury timepieces at SCP
Add another luxury shop to South Coast Plaza’s offerings: Vacheron Constantin, perhaps the world’s oldest maker of fine timepieces.
It’s only the third U.S. store for the brand. The other two are in New York City and Las Vegas.
The shop, drenched in elegant architectural and decorative details, features a custom-made Murano crystal chandelier, sleek showcases and walls finished in fine Venetian plaster, according to a press release.
Vacheron Constantin offers all of the Geneva-based manufacturer’s collection, as well as exclusive boutique models such as the new Métiers d’Art Les Univers Infinis collection, the release said.

Upscale baby, toddler store opens
We all have the most adorable kids in the world, right? Now you can play up your cutie pie’s look at Lil’ Baby Sprouts in the Newport North Shopping Center.
Lil’ Baby Sprouts is a high-end baby and toddler boutique that offers organic blankets, toys and other baby products and gifts, according to a news release. It also will offer classes for moms and new moms-to-be in the spring. Classes will be taught by registered nurses and other professionals on topics such as nutrition, nursing and baby development, the release said.
The idea for the shop, owned by Fanak Ojani, developed from her latest passion: becoming a mother in 2008.
“I love being a mother and have found that the combination of fine baby products and an intimate classroom setting for new mothers has been missing in Orange County,” Ojani said in a statement.
